Private schools, nurseries and childcare, adult education, tutoring, language, music and driving schools, and seminar and training providers: for publishers, teaching materials dealers, software vendors and service providers who want to reach educational institutions by post.

Our Austrian database holds 218,653 records (as of 3 November 2026); they are not yet assigned to industries. The quote states the size available for this industry.

Export of the whole industry: €319 (final price). Selections by federal state, district or your own filters are quoted on request.

Official statistics: 24,311 businesses in Austria according to Statistics Austria, structural business statistics 2024 (table G_UNT1) (reference year 2024, table created 30 June 2026). Section P education (division 85). The figure counts businesses in the structural business statistics, not individual schools or nurseries; an operator with several sites counts once. This is the size of the market, not the size of our database.

What counts as Education and training

The industry corresponds to ÖNACE section P (education). Businesses in the structural business statistics are counted, not individual schools: an operator with several sites counts once.

Public schools are run by the federal government, the federal states or municipalities. They have a school address but are often not businesses in their own right; whether they are included in the export depends on the source.

School directories and trade licences: different legal bases

Educational institutions are subject to very different rules depending on their type.

Schools
Schools with public-law status are subject to school law. The education authorities publish school directories intended to inform parents and pupils.
Adult education and courses
Private course and seminar providers are usually associations or businesses. Associations are in the Central Register of Associations, which only allows individual searches; businesses are in the companies register or GISA.
Driving schools
Driving schools need an authorisation under motor vehicle law. They are a small, clearly defined group in class 85.53.

Not in the export

  • pupil numbers and course offerings
  • operators and school maintaining bodies in detail
  • names of head teachers and teaching staff
  • funding and accreditations
  • opening and holiday times

School, course or nursery: three target groups

Anyone selling teaching materials to schools often deals with public operators and procurement rules. Private course providers, by contrast, decide for themselves. Say which group you mean in your request.

Many tutors and music teachers are sole traders. For a postal mailing, the information duty under Art. 14 GDPR and the right to object apply.

Marketing emails and sales calls to schools and course providers require prior consent (§ 174 TKG 2021).
